Fire captures flames rising through darkness at the instant their form becomes briefly defined. Amber and orange light emerges from deep black surroundings, transforming fleeting movement into an almost sculptural composition. Blending abstract and elemental photography, the image explores energy, movement and the dramatic contrast between light and darkness.
The photograph is shaped by the relationship between light, form and negative space. Layers of flame twist and separate against the darkness, revealing fine tonal transitions and shapes that existed for only a fraction of a second. At A2, the separation between flame, darkness and fine detail becomes more pronounced, giving the movement greater physical presence while preserving the intensity of the original composition.
