How to Frame Hahnemühle Photo Rag Fine-Art Prints
Unless otherwise stated on the product page, Baguley Fine Art Photography paper prints are supplied unframed. This gives you the freedom to choose a frame that complements the artwork, your interior and your preferred style of presentation.
Each print is professionally produced on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm—a museum-quality, 100% cotton fine-art paper with a smooth matt surface and softly defined texture. Careful framing will help protect these qualities and preserve the artwork’s appearance.
Quick recommendation: Choose an exact-fit frame for a clean, contemporary appearance. Choose a larger frame with an acid-free custom mount for a more traditional gallery presentation and additional protection. Exact-fit or mounted?
Exact-fit framing
An exact-fit frame accommodates the complete paper size with little or no visible space around it. This creates a clean, contemporary presentation suited to modern interiors, smaller spaces and grouped displays.
The inside edge of the frame will normally conceal a few millimetres of paper. Use an acid-free backing insert and, where the frame has sufficient depth, archival spacers to prevent the print from resting directly against the glazing.
Framing with a custom mount
A larger frame with a white or neutral mount gives the artwork more surrounding space and creates a traditional gallery-style presentation. It can also make a smaller print feel more substantial on the wall.
Choose an acid-free, pH-neutral mount. Its opening should normally overlap the print by approximately 3–5 mm on each edge, securing the paper without concealing too much of the image.
Understanding the measurements
The dimensions shown on each product page refer to the complete paper size. Frames, mounts and display accessories are not included unless specifically stated.
Frame measurements may refer to the artwork they accommodate or to the frame’s external dimensions. Before ordering, check the stated picture size, artwork size or internal dimensions.

Large prints
* A 30 × 30 cm print measures approximately 11.8 × 11.8 inches. A 12 × 12-inch frame is approximately 4.8 mm larger overall in both width and height, so it may leave a narrow gap around a true 30 × 30 cm print.
Choosing suitable framing materials
Mount and backing board
For long-term presentation, choose acid-free, pH-neutral mountboard and backing materials. Avoid ordinary cardboard, which may discolour the paper over time.
Use acid-free photo corners or conservation-quality hinging tape to secure the print. Do not use ordinary adhesive tape, glue or spray-mount products.
Glass or acrylic?
Glass provides excellent clarity and is resistant to scratching. Acrylic is lighter and shatter-resistant, making it particularly practical for larger frames or displays that may be moved regularly.
UV-protective glass or acrylic can provide additional protection in brighter rooms. The artwork should still be positioned away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive heat and damp or humid conditions.
Choosing a frame finish
A narrow matt-black frame creates a clean, contemporary gallery appearance and provides consistent contrast around colourful, dark and pale photographs.
Natural oak offers a softer, warmer presentation that particularly complements landscape, wildlife and botanical subjects. White frames create a bright, understated appearance suited to light, minimal interiors.
When displaying several photographs together, using one consistent finish—or two deliberately coordinated finishes—will help the collection feel cohesive.
Hanging Your Aluminium Dibond Artwork
Aluminium Dibond artworks supplied with an invisible floating subframe arrive ready to hang. The concealed subframe sits behind the artwork, creating a clean, frameless presentation that appears to float slightly away from the wall.
For prints fitted with the supplied sawtooth and Bear Claw hanging hardware, position a suitable nail or screw securely in the wall and carefully lower the hanger onto the fixing. Check that the artwork is level before releasing it fully.
If your Dibond artwork is supplied without a hanger, use an appropriate wall-fixing system suitable for the artwork’s size, weight and the construction of your wall.
Always ensure fixings are securely installed and appropriate for plasterboard, masonry or other wall surfaces.
